After Father Costel died in 1896, Father Poinel, who succeeded him, completed the construction of the cathedral, and finally, on May 29, 1898, the Solemnity of Pentecost, a historic consecration ceremony was held by Bishop Mutel, the Bishop of Joseon. Completed 12 years after the groundbreaking, Myeongdong Cathedral, the seat of the bishop, is a pure gothic-style building, and its cultural value is highly regarded.
