Nanzoin Temple is the headquarters of the Sasaguri Buddhist pilgrimage route and the first amulet issuer. It belongs to the Shingon-gun of Koyasan. Sasaguri Shikoku was established during the Tempo period (1830-1844) of the Edo period. However, due to the influence of the anti-French policy, in 1886 the Fukuoka Prefectural Government ordered the destruction of the sanctuary. However, local residents petitioned the government to remain in existence for about 10 years. As a result, the government allowed Nanzoin to remain on the condition that it be moved here from Koyasan. The 21st head priest Kakuun Hayashi, who came to Sasaguri with the transfer of Nanzoin, was actively engaged in missionary work in various parts of Kyushu. Thanks to the efforts and enthusiasm of such people, today's Sasaguri Shikoku has become one of the three most sacred places in Shin-Shikoku. We welcome large numbers of pilgrims each year and pray constantly for all.

It is one of the largest bronze sculptures in the world.
total length 41 meters

We, Nanzoin, have sent medical supplies, stationery to children in Myanmar and Nepal for many years. In 1988, the Myanmar Buddhist Congress presented us with the sacred ashes of Gautama Buddha, Ananda, and Mokgyonyan in return for our gift. We believe that these gifts are due to the extraordinary virtues of many people. So we planned to erect a statue to worship these sacred remains. We hope this will be a trustworthy statue for everyone.
